IN THE MATTER of an Inquiry into the conduct of Shantelle Smith arising from and in relation to Discipline File No. 2024-0593.

NOTICE OF HEARING

TAKE NOTICE THAT pursuant to the provisions of Section 24.5 (5) of the Legal Profession Act, an inquiry will take place by a sole inquirer into the following matter relating to the conduct of Shantelle Smith.

It is alleged that:

Shantelle SMITH, a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories, on or between June 21, 2024 and July 12, 2024, did commit unprofessional conduct by, directly or indirectly through a staff member for whom you were responsible, disclose confidential information about a client, Joel MCCONNELL, without authorization contrary to ss. 3.1-2, 3.3-1 or 6.1-1 of the Code of Professional Conduct.

The inquiry will commence on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM MST. The hearing will be held virtually and anyone wishing to observe may attend via Zoom (contact the LSNT offices for connection information).
