Lawyers' Assistance Program
The Law Society of the Northwest Territories has obtained the services of Human Solutions to provide members with the Lawyers' Assistance Program.
What is Human Solutions?
Human Solutions is a Canadian company that specializes in providing employee assistance and work-health solutions. Their staff and counsellors are specially selected for their expertise and experience. They base their assistance on the most up-to-date information available, and they work with you to achieve the best possible outcomes for your particular situation.
What is the Lawyers' Assistance Program?
The Lawyers' Assistance Program is a confidential counselling service designed to assist you and members of your family with dealing with a wide range of personal problems affecting health, well being and professional life. The Program will provide short-term counselling as well as assistance in finding the best resources available in your community or elsewhere. The Program is designed to help with the following:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Marital or Family Problems
- Alcohol or Drug Abuse
- Financial Difficulties
- Practice problems
- Work and Career concerns
- Stress
- Any other issue which causes distress
The program is open to members of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories (including articling students) and members of their immediate families. If you are in doubt whether the Lawyers' Assistance Program might be able to help you with a problem you are experiencing, just call and ask.
What about Confidentiality?
The Lawyers' Assistance Program is completely confidential. The Law Society and CBA will receive only statistical information (such as the number of callers per month). The names of callers and the particulars of their problems will not be released.

Practice Advisors
The Practice Advisors of the Law Society of Alberta are available to discuss legal, ethical and practice concerns, as well as personal matters such as stress and addiction. Members of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories are invited to contact the Practice Advisors at any time.

Mentor Program
Members from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are invited to call the office of the Practice Advisor and ask for the Mentor Program. There is no cost for this service.
NOTE: Not all mentors may be completely familiar with Northwest Territories statutes and practice.
