MEMBER NEWS
Diane Buckland, Laid to Rest

It is with regret and sincere sympathy for her family and friends that we report that Diane Buckland, a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories from 1987-2010, passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on Saturday, July 17, 2010.

Diane was called to the Northwest Territories Bar in 1987 after articling with the firm of Richard, Vertes, Peterson and Schuler. She served as associate with the firm until 1989 when she joined Legislation Division with the Department of Justice. In 2003 she joined the Department of Justice in Nunavut, serving as Director of Legislation Division until December 2008.

Diane is survived by her two children, David and Thomas Nearing, her mother Maxine Buckland, her sister Jane (Bart, Laura and Gordon) Heine and brother Jerry (Elizabeth, Daniel) Buckland. Diane was predeceased by her father in 2008 and her husband, Gregory Nearing in November 2009.

A memorial service will be held to honour of Diane's life at St. Augustine Anglican Church at 211, 11th St S, Lethbridge on July 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.

Memorial donations may be made to a trust fund for her two children through CIBC. Condolences can be sent to DianeBuckland@shaw.ca. A guestbook is also available at legacy.com.

The memo has been delivered to all resident insured (private bar) and Crown lawyers. It is also available as a PDF here:
