CBA-NT YOUNG LAWYERS Law Week Planning - Baking Needed
Law Week Bake Sale
Saturday, April 10, 2010 - 10:00am
Centre Square Mall (Lower Level), Yellowknife
All proceeds going to the Yellowknife Food Bank.
Last year was a great success. All all the baked goods which many of you provided were quickly snatched up by Yellowknife sweet tooths. Please dust off those aprons and rolling pins once again and help us raise funds for the food bank. Please drop any goods off at the Law Society office on Friday or contact Shirley Walsh at shirley.walsh@wscc.nt.ca to make other arrangements.

Mental Health Issues and the Criminal Justice System
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 12:00pm Champagne Room (Yellowknife)
This event is brought to you by the CBA-NT Criminal Law Section. Registration: $25.00 (non-members) REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 12
In criminal law, a "guilty" or "not guilty" plea or verdict is not always achievable. In the pursuit of a fair trial, it is often vital to assess the mental competency and abilities of the purpetrator and, in some cases, the victim.
Join the Hon. Judge Christine Gagnon of the Territorial Court as she discusses the essentials all criminal lawyers should know when considering the mental stability and well-being of all those involved. Judge Gagnon will address particularities that arise when dealing with an accused with potential mental illnesses, including assessments to determine fitness to stand trial or be held criminally responsible, and the associated ethical challenges for lawyers.
